Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of the Coronation Solar project?

To provide a significant contribution of renewable energy to fulfill the electricity needs of the local distribution grid in Alberta.

When will the construction start?

Construction is expected to start approximately in March 2025.

When will the project be completed?

Construction is anticipated to be completed in December 2025.

What is the power capacity of the project?

Approximately 21 megawatts AC.

Where will the solar power project be located?

On a privately owned greenfield site to the south of the Town of Coronation, west of Range Road 110 and south of Township Road 360.

The project will be sited with larger than standard setbacks from the property lines to encourage greater spacing from sensitive areas such as natural environment, neighbour dwellings, and trafficked roadways. Obton will work with neighbours to construct vegetative screening if visually sensitive areas are identified during planning.

How will the Coronation Solar project impact the local job market?

The project will require full-time positions during construction and part-time positions for maintenance. Construction will increase spending at local stores and hotels.

Through the Prime Contractor, there will be opportunity for local vendors to provide services and labor to plan, install, and maintain the facility. For information on how to participate in the project please contact us using the form below.

What company is developing the project?

Obton Solar Canada Inc.

What is Obton Solar Canada Inc.’s approach to impact management for the Coronation Solar project?

Obton Solar Canada Inc. is diligently collaborating with industry experts in Alberta to develop comprehensive impact management plans in adherence to the guidelines set.

How will the Coronation Solar project affect local energy prices?

The Coronation Solar project will contribute low-cost, renewable energy to the Alberta power market, which may assist with energy cost reductions.

Will the Coronation Solar project be part of Alberta’s ongoing phase-out of coal-fired power plants?
